MICKEY GREENE

Born Nonkumbuzo Ester Maqwati, Mickey Greene is a a 37 year old musician born in the City of Johannesburg and raised in the Eastern Cape. A number 7 of 10 kids, growing up has allowed her music to be influenced by all the amazingly different individuals she has crossed paths with.

She has worked with a lot of talented artists and was introduced to Taffy, who she says has helped her in terms of finding her own sound.

Like many, Mickey Started music at church Sunday school and it has stuck with her since then, “it won’t leave me alone”.

Mickey says her biggest break is meeting founder and director of Wine Wednesdays Dogg_DBN – “I can’t explain, Dogg’s aura just gives you that you have made it feeling” – being part of MNET’s Clash of the choirs Season is also one of her proudest moments, though her team didn’t win, but that was a life changing and beautiful experience because they did TV everyday for months, which till today, she still pinches herself when she remembers it like it was yesterday.

Stage name: MickeyGreene (Mickey is a nickname given to me her mom because she was so cute as a kid to her, she was her mom’s Mickey Mouse and Greene because she loves the colour Green and everything green it represents positive energy growth and success to her.
